Nigerian lyrical giant Joeboy had one for us when he sang ‘all of the blessings fall on my yard'. Because really, what's more beautiful than blessings raining on your yard? We are all thoroughly blessed but most times, it's hard to see it.

Some people don't feel like they are blessed enough to have anything to be grateful for. Blessings abound in every little thing. Being able to breathe unaided, laugh out loud, have a roof over your head, food to eat, the ability to read this, etc.

You have so much to be grateful for because you have more than most people. Some people are living in war-stricken places facing the fear of death each day. Others are living in abject poverty and are on the brink of starvation.

Other people are alive because they are on machine support. If the machine is taken away, they will die. But in our quest and thirst for more, we don't get to see how blessed we are. There is so much we have that we don't deserve and those deserving don't have it.

We live by comparisons. Looking at what the next person has and going out of our way to having it too. It's good to work hard for a better life. However, we should first appreciate what we are blessed with before wanting more.

Other people's blessings shouldn't necessarily be ours. Social media is a culprit when it comes to people feeling inadequate and lacking. There is so much showing off going on. Many people get depressed from looking at all the things they don't have or can't afford.
