Robert Nesta Marley was born on 6 February 1945 in Jamaica. Although his father was financially supportive to his mother, they rarely saw him because he was always away. Bob went to Stepney Primary and Junior High School.
Bob's father died from a heart attack at the age of 70 when Bob was only 10 years old. His mother then remarried. The family later moved to Trenchtown, Kingston, where Bob began developing his interest in music.
