Yesterday's gone and tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is what you have now and as Bill Keane said, 'it's called the present because it's a gift from God.' Many times we are unable to live in the present moment. We are either stressing about what happened yesterday or worrying about what will happen tomorrow.
We hardly give the present a chance to thrive and offer us its best. Many opportunities and chances are missed because we are not in the present. And when the day is gone, we are left wishing we had done the most. It becomes another yesterday that we are unsatisfied with.
It is hard to be fully immersed in the present if you are having regrets about the past. Like when you keep wishing you had done this or said that. Teach yourself to let go of what's gone instead of obsessing over it. You cannot have yesterday again but you can make today better than yesterday.
Take what's gone as a lesson and apply it in the present moment to avoid future regrets. If you don't give today your best, you will be regretting it tomorrow. Also, avoid overthinking about what's coming tomorrow. This helps you avoid stressful thoughts of what might go wrong.
Try to remain in the present moment and savor all it has for you. Mindfulness can help you do this by keeping you grounded at the moment. You could practice taking deep breaths and just be there.
Notice the things around you. The colors on the walls, the design of the floors, or the curtains on the windows. Look at the people around you and see how they talk, what they are wearing, and how they carry themselves.
