It's just the beginning, it's not the end. Things will never be the same again. No one could have said it better than Melanie C, over two decades ago. An end always signifies a new beginning.
We all approach ends differently. We are ready to embrace them if they provide relief from something undesirable that we were going through. Or, we become sad if they are about something good that we would have wanted to keep going.
If you had a bad day, a stormy year, or a turbulent relationship, when they come to an end you feel good. The end is something you were anticipating, hoping, and praying for. When it finally comes, it is easy to embrace it and step into the next phase of your life.
If it's the opposite, letting go can be challenging. Breaking up with someone you dearly loved, the death of someone close to you, or the loss of a job or a house. Some of these endings are abrupt and their unexpectedness makes them even harder to understand and bear.
Endings bring about change. When people are unable to accept endings and they remain stuck in the same place. Getting closure and finding the courage to move on is always the best choice when something ends.
Dwelling on the same chapter in a book will not bring it back. However, closing that chapter opens one up to new beginnings, new adventures, and new life experiences. The book of life is too huge to remain stuck on just one chapter.
Our end quotes bring to mind that things have an end. Days, goals, relationships, projects, events, lives, and everything in between. It's okay to reflect on what has gone once in a while. After all, that's what we call memories. But it's never okay to not move past it.
