Born as Hilary Hinton Ziglar on 6 November, 1926, Zig Ziglar was an American author, salesman, and motivational speaker. He was born premature in Alabama but at the age of five, his family moved to Mississippi where he spent most of his early childhood.

In 1947, Ziglar dropped out of college and moved to Lancaster, South Calorina, to work as a salesman for the WearEver Cookware company. He was promoted to field manager and later to divisional officer in 1950.

While here, he developed an interest in self-help and motivational speaking. Ziglar was a charter member of the establishment of American Salesmasters in 1963. The company used seminars to raise the image of salespeople in America.
