Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on 2 March 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He went to Dartmouth College and graduated in 1925. While at Dartmouth, Geisel was part of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern magazine.

He rose to the editor rank but was forced to resign later by his Dean when he was caught drinking with his friends during the Prohibition period. That's when he took the pen name ‘Seuss' to continue writing.

After graduation, he joined Lincoln College for a Ph.D. in English literature, which he never finished. He met his wife there, who encouraged him to pursue a drawing career. Dr. Seuss pitched his drawings and writings to various places until he finally landed a job at the humor magazine Judge.

He gained popularity with his cartoon ad for Flit and began appearing regularly in magazines like Vanity Fair. His first children's book was And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

Dr. Seuss went on to produce other classics like Oh, the Places You'll Go. The books have had adaptations from television specials and feature films to television series and a Broadway musical.

My uncle ordered popovers from the restaurant's bill of fare. And, when they were served, he regarded them with a penetrating stare. Then he spoke great words of wisdom as he sat there on that chair: "To eat these things," said my uncle, "You must exercise great care. You may swallow down what's solid, but you must spit out the air!" And as you partake of the world's bill of fare, that's darned good advice to follow. Do a lot of spitting out the hot air. And be careful what you swallow.
