Charles Rozell Swindoll is an evangelical Christian pastor, author, educator, and radio preacher. Born on 18 October, 1934, in Texas, he founded Insight for Living, a radio program that airs on over 2,000 stations worldwide in 15 languages.

Charles went to Charles H. Milby High School in Houston. He had a stutter which his drama teacher, Dick Nieme, taught him to manage. He was a member of the marching band and orchestra leading him to know how to play all the woodwind instruments although he preferred the clarinet.

After high school, he studied mechanical engineering then joined the United States Marine Corps. He received his honorable discharge in 1959 after which he went to Dallas Theological Seminary. He was ordained into ministry in 1963.

Charles has been a senior pastor from 1965. He started his Insight for Living radio ministry in 1979. In 1994, he became the president of the Dallas Theological Seminary and is now its chancellor. He has authored over 70 books with some best sellers under his belt.

Swindoll was named by Christianity Today as one of the top 25 most influential preachers of the past 50 years (1956-2006). In 1998, he founded Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. He got married to Cynthia Ann Parker, who was a pianist, in 1955.
