Born on 7 November 1918, William Franklin Graham was raised on a dairy farm with his three siblings. Aged 16, their farmhand named Albert McMakin encouraged him to go and see the evangelist Mordecai Ham.
Graham was converted during one of Ham's revival meetings in 1934. He later received his calling while at the Florida Bible Institute. He would preach to birds, alligators, and cypress stumps. He was ordained in 1939 before graduating in 1940 with a Bachelor of Theology.
